Nearly half of destination organizations (42%) reported in the 2025 DNEXT Futures study that their funding is at risk within the next three years. At the same time, communities and funders are demanding more than traditional economic impact metrics they expect proof of a destination’s contribution to well-being and resilience. This Virtual Roundtable, hosted by the Social Impact Committee, will explore how destinations can reframe financial vulnerability not as a deficit, but as an opportunity to highlight their role as champions of community value. By shifting from a defensive stance to proactive storytelling, organizations can build stronger cases for funding, grounded in measurable social ROI. Please come prepared with cameras on, ready to participate in dialogue.

Tourism marketers often focus on bookings, but what if that’s the wrong goal? This session will explore what tourism can learn from the automotive world. Using the auto industry’s tier 1–2–3 model as a lens (manufacturer–region–dealer), we’ll examine the parallels to state tourism offices, destinations, and finally hotels, and discuss why measuring intent isn’t enough. This webinar will also cover how OTAs impact margins, why loyalty and retention matter more than ever, and how DMOs can shift their role, from chasing conversions to driving real demand and letting stakeholders close the deal. You'll leave with fresh thinking on how to measure the unmodeled value of your efforts and create strategies that lift your entire destination, not just room nights.

Sustainable tourism, as defined by the UN World Tourism Organization, considers the economic, social, and environmental impacts of tourism while addressing the needs of visitors, industries, and local communities. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted in 2015 by all UN member states, aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve lives by 2030. These 17 interconnected goals require global collaboration from governments, businesses, civil society, and others. As we approach the midpoint of SDG implementation, there is concern that many targets will be missed by 2030, particularly in tourism destinations, if sustainable tourism and SDG alignment remain undefined and unmeasured. Destination organization leaders face challenges in determining where to begin, which SDGs to prioritize, and how to measure progress. This webinar will help leaders navigate these complexities, offering guidance on defining sustainable tourism for their destinations and aligning with the SDGs.
